headscale v0.29.3 released on 29-07-2026

headscale v0.29.3 is out now. Minimum supported Tailscale client is v1.80.0, so operators should plan upgrades to avoid client/server mismatches.

See the Headscale upgrade guide at https://headscale.net/stable/setup/upgrade/ and the project’s GitHub release notes for full details.

What’s in this release

  • Minimum supported Tailscale client set to v1.80.0 and the build toolchain bumped to Go 1.26.5.
  • Tagged-node registration and logout fixes: tagged nodes no longer stay marked expired after a tailscale logout; re-registering with a different pre-auth key now applies the new key’s tags; re-authenticating with –advertise-tags is accepted when the authenticating user owns the tags.
  • Registration reliability and ephemeral node handling improvements: ephemeral nodes no longer linger as disconnected after reconnect churn, follow-up registration waits prefer completed auth over expired contexts (avoiding false 401 “registration timed out”), and ephemeral GC is not cancelled until Connect succeeds.

Upgrade notes

  • Minimum supported Tailscale client is v1.80.0 — follow the Headscale upgrade guide: https://headscale.net/stable/setup/upgrade/.
  • No explicit rollback instructions are included in the release notes.

Share any notes or issues from your upgrade on the project’s GitHub so others can learn from your experience.
