HomeAssistant Core | 2026.9.1

HomeAssistant Core 2026.9.1 released on 05-09-2026

HomeAssistant Core 2026.9.1 is out now. It fixes backup handling and improves device-registry stability, alongside a set of config-flow, file/SMTP and dependency updates that reduce startup delays and cleanup races.

See the Home Assistant Core release notes on GitHub for the full changelog and installation instructions.

What’s in this release

  • Backup fixes — restore/receive backup streaming repaired and a potential deadlock in the receive_file backup utility resolved.
  • Device-registry robustness — unreachable deleted devices are purged on load and lookup of colliding/orphaned devices is sped up to reduce startup delays and race conditions.
  • Behaviour, config-flow and file handling fixes — SMTP no longer misclassifies valid images when content sniffing fails; repair flows warn that removing an app deletes its data; Besen config flow and several edge cases fixed; empty motionEye usernames allowed; UniFi Protect host-override corrected; Miele filling-level sensors now report the correct state_class.

Upgrade notes

  • Device registry purge: unreachable deleted devices may be removed during device-registry load — back up your device_registry or take a snapshot before upgrading and verify device entries after the update.
  • If you encounter regressions, restore from a backup or revert to the previous Home Assistant Core release until fixes are available.

Share any issues or improvements you see after upgrading — real-world feedback helps others decide whether to move now or wait.
