k3s | v1.36.4+k3s1

k3s v1.36.4+k3s1 released on 27-08-2026

k3s v1.36.4+k3s1 is out now. It bundles Kubernetes v1.36.4 and Go 1.26.7, so cluster operators and homelab maintainers should test workloads and API compatibility before upgrading production.

See the k3s GitHub release notes and the Kubernetes v1.36.4 changelog for full details and the complete list of fixes and API behaviour changes.

What’s in this release

  • Upstream Kubernetes updated to v1.36.4 and Go bumped to 1.26.7 (see Kubernetes changelog for API and behaviour changes).
  • Traefik Helm chart upgraded to v40.x; includes a breaking change for the ingress-nginx migration (provider name changes from kubernetesIngressNginx to kubernetesIngressNGINX).
  • Embedded component bumps: Kine v0.16.4, Etcd v3.6.14-k3s1, Containerd v2.3.4-k3s1.36, Runc v1.4.2, Flannel v0.28.4, CoreDNS v1.14.6, Metrics-server v0.9.0, Local-path-provisioner v0.0.37, Helm-controller v0.17.7 and SQLite 3.53.4.

Upgrade notes

  • Breaking change: update Traefik values and any CRD/provider configuration to use the new provider name (kubernetesIngressNGINX). See the Traefik chart release notes: https://github.com/traefik/traefik-helm-chart/releases/tag/v40.0.0
  • Test in a non-production environment first, watch component logs for restarts, and validate Helm-managed components (Traefik chart values and ingress behaviour). If you need to revert, consider rolling back to the previous release (v1.36.3+k3s1) and restore configuration from your backups.

Share your experience after upgrading — report issues on the k3s GitHub, ask for help on the k3s Slack, or consult the official documentation.
