paperless-ngx | v3.1.0

paperless-ngx v3.1.0 released on 27-08-2026

paperless-ngx v3.1.0 is out now. It adds an “Apply AI suggestions” workflow action, moves paperless_ai prompts to Jinja2 templates and improves OCR, UI and export behaviour to make AI-driven metadata and OCR handling more reliable and easier to automate.

See the release on the project’s GitHub for full notes, upgrade instructions and documentation and wiki links covering the AI features and parser changes.

What’s in this release

  • AI workflow and pipeline improvements: new “Apply AI suggestions” workflow action; paperless_ai prompts now render via Jinja2 templates and suggestions prefer existing tags, types, correspondents and storage paths.
  • OCR and parser behaviour: remote OCR parsers respect the global OCR mode, administrators can route documents selectively to remote OCR engines, and remote OCR failures now raise ParseError instead of continuing silently.
  • Web UI and mobile refinements: welcome widget and many small visual fixes, modal resizing for small screens, fixes for search/dropdown clipping on mobile, customizable icons and pagination for saved views, accessibility label additions and other UX polishing.

Upgrade notes

  • Default OCR mode behaviour changed in v3; review the documentation and wiki added with this release and test OCR and remote OCR routing in a staging environment before upgrading.
  • Keep backups of configuration and data before upgrading. To revert, follow the project’s rollback process as documented on GitHub and restore your pre-upgrade backups.

Share feedback or report issues on the project’s GitHub issues page — maintainers are interested in how the AI suggestions behave in real workflows and any problems encountered during upgrade.
