Telegraf | v1.40.0

Telegraf v1.40.0 released on 07-09-2026

Telegraf v1.40.0 is out now. It includes important fixes to inputs.cisco_telemetry_mdt that change metric naming and table/tag behaviour and may require adjustments to existing dashboards and queries.

Visit the project’s GitHub release or the official download pages for the full release notes, package artifacts and SHA256 sums.

What’s in this release

  • Critical fixes and behaviour changes in inputs.cisco_telemetry_mdt: metric names now respect configured aliases, spurious RIB metrics are avoided, table row numbering is corrected, and spurious tags no longer leak into parent metrics.
  • New plugins and secret-store improvements: inputs.fritzbox_smarthome and outputs.zerobus added; secretstores.jose, secretstores.os and secretstores.vault gained support for removing secrets, vault gained namespace support, and the agent gains a command to remove secrets from a store.
  • Deprecated plugins/options removed: inputs.aerospike, inputs.sflow, outputs.amon, inputs.tail from_beginning, and several deprecated options in kafka_consumer, openstack and procstat — these removals may require config changes when upgrading.

Upgrade notes

  • Review queries and dashboards that reference microburst or RIB data and remove or adjust aliases and tags as required by the inputs.cisco_telemetry_mdt changes; check the power_on_hours field in inputs.smart (now reported in hours) for any dependent queries.
  • If you need to roll back, reinstall the previous Telegraf package from your archive; the release includes downloadable binaries/packages and SHA256 sums for verification.

Share any comments on your upgrade experience on the project’s GitHub or community channels so others can benefit from practical notes and workarounds.
