What’s in this release

  • Kernel upgraded to Linux 6.18.51 with EFI SecureBoot integrity lockdown patch, tightened kernel permissions expected by 6.18, enabled CONFIG_USB_LAN78XX and CONFIG_MICROCHIP_PHY, CONFIG_XFRM_INTERFACE, Intel HD audio modules, and USB LAN78XX drivers added to the rootfs.
  • Container runtime and Kubernetes updates: containerd bumped to 2.3.5 and several kube images updated (kube-apiserver, controller-manager, scheduler, kube-proxy and kubelet to v1.37.0); networking fixes include WireGuard gRPC reconnection, BGP VRF rebuilds and MetalLB/BGP test fixes.
  • Tooling and images: built with Go 1.26.8 and a util-linux bump, gen/pkgs/tools dependency updates, ability to generate an ECDSA service-account key in secrets bundles, NixOS OVMF search path added, and published images versioned v1.14.1.

Upgrade notes

  • Kernel-related permission and boot artefact changes are included (6.18 expectations and GRUB ISOs created only for BIOS); test upgrades on a non-production node and verify boot behaviour, reporting problems at https://github.com/siderolabs/talos/issues.
  • If you need to roll back, the previous release is v1.14.0 — images and release assets remain available on the project’s GitHub.
